I have a secret weapon. Last year a friend introduced me to the free, basic version of a modern-day piggy bank/money education tool that has turned out to be one of those happy surprises in life that is too good not to share. In six months, my kids transformed from whiney consumers into savvy little savers that get strange envious looks from other parents when they chat with obvious relish about saving, goal setting, doing chores and odd jobs for money, earning interest, and slashing unnecessary purchases in pursuit of glorious goals like legos starwars and battle droids. And get this--they don’t expect Dad to pay for them. There’s no begging anymore. Just planning, earning, saving and appreciating. It’s freaking awesome!
The only mystery here is really why a marketing fan like me took so long to connect the dots and realize that Maendel Wealth should be offering Family Mint as a value-added for our clients who have kids and grandkids in their lives (that’s most of them). At the risk of showing our best cards, we give these away at seminars, school events/raffles, and as incentives to connect with our social media pages. It’s a very soft sell and an immediate value that is appreciated both for the novel idea and the value clients and prospects realize they are receiving once they look up the normal subscription fees shown on the site. Once you really grasp how this works in the real-world, you realize that any family that signs up will be viewing YOUR company’s logo (along with web links and some info) EVERY TIME they log on, which is likely to be several times weekly for each child as well as the parent who’s involvement is needed to “approve” the kids decisions.
This is an incredible value as a goodwill and prospect generator. It is one of the only marketing tools we use that people get excited about sharing with others. We’d love to be the only ones using it.

Our introduction to the program came at the perfect time as we were looking for something to fill the financial educational void we see in young children. Being a small credit union we are not able to do as much within the school system or community as we’d like. FamilyMint does not require staff to be out of the office, a large time investment or huge cash outlay and marketing it is very easy. With children being so computer savvy and inquisitive, they are more than willing to sit down with a parent and work on the system.
